First Herring Spawn

Last few years we have seen an early spawn out of Salmon and Mussel beach. First I heard on Feb 18, I launched my tinny and rushed to the Spilling Islets where I scored my bucket of herring with a cast net. Nothing makes you feel like a fisherman like scoring a cast of herring. Wind was predicted to come up so I turned, tucked tail and ripped back to Secret boat launch. EPIC morning.
We are still waiting on the major spawn but he herring are piled up in huge bait balls. So big the sounder thinks the fish are the ground. No signal is making it through. We were catching them with herring jigs but not efficiently. The winter Chinook were biting on small herring aid spoons and the pistachio hoochie was by far getting more action.
Get Out Here and Fish!
